World Cancer Day themes

The theme for 2025-2027 is ‘United by Unique,’ which “places individuals at the centre of care and their stories of having cancer or fighting with cancer at the heart of the conversation.”

The campaign topic for 2022-2024 was ‘Close the Treatment Gap,’ which focuses on decreasing disparities in access to cancer treatment services encountered by populations of diverse national incomes, ages, genders, ethnicities, and so on.

The 2019-2021 campaign theme was ‘I Am and Will’. The topic aims to challenge the pessimistic mindset and fatalistic notion that nothing can be done about cancer, instead emphasising how powerful and significant our actions can be.

Role of government

Governments of different countries and healthcare organisations play a major role in cancer control. Policies that prioritise cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment are essential. National cancer control programs, public health campaigns, and investments in healthcare infrastructure can significantly reduce the burden of cancer.

Role of individuals

As we know about the role of government and other organisations in cancer control, there is also a vital role of individuals in the battle against cancer.

Individuals’ efforts include maintaining a healthy lifestyle, engaging in some screening programs, and supporting cancer awareness initiatives. All of these can have a significant impact in sharing their personal stories of fighting cancer and their experience. I could motivate others. Volunteering makes World Cancer Day more impactful.
